280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet (W 111)
This is not something you ride in; it is something you cast off in: The 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet debuted in September of 1969 as the most powerful version of the W 111 with an all-new 3.5-liter V8 engine under the hood. With only 1,232 cars built, the top-of-the-range model is extremely rare and one of the most sought-after vintage cars of that era. With this automobile, restored in BRABUS Classic 6-Star quality, we are reviving the exclusive driving experience – as if it were 1969.
Each BRABUS 6-Star Restoration always starts with the complete disassembly of the base vehicle in our workshop. All parts are inspected and indexed; individual components are meticulously reconditioned. Missing or worn out components are replaced with newly manufactured genuine Mercedes parts. The result after thousands of hours of labor is a unique investment delivering incomparable driving fun.
After the chemical paint removal, experienced master bodywork specialists recondition the body shell and give it a cataphoretic dip primer coat (CDP) as can be found on modern production vehicles. The thus achieved comprehensive corrosion protection using state-of-the-art paint protection technologies is enhanced with a perfect paint job in the original color. To ensure the value retention in future as well, all cavities of the vehicle are treated with a sealer.
The bodywork is completed with the perfectly reconditioned chrome details such as bumpers, chrome trim and badges. The lenses of the headlamps are replaced as are the windshield and the windows.
Engine & Technical Equipment
While work on the body is going on, the experts in the BRABUS hi-tech engine shop completely disassemble the engine of the 280 SE 3.5 and measure all components. The restoration of the classic's engine is carried out with utmost care. The BRABUS specialists use the same precision in overhauling the automatic transmission installed here and the air conditioning system this classic icon is equipped with. The entire electrical system of the vehicle and the wire harness are replaced. There are no compromises with regard to the suspension and brakes either. Springs and shock absorbers are replaced, the axles are fitted with new bearings. All components are reconditioned, revised or replaced and thus offer optimal active safety and reliable driving pleasure.
Perfect even where it isn't immediately apparent. The underbody of the 280 SE 3.5, the insides of the fender wells: Everything is reconditioned meticulously and thoroughly and returned to mint condition. A final sealer coat on the entire underbody provides optimal protection. The underbody is also waxed by request. Driving on the road or at a special place of your choice: The result is astonishing and represents concours condition.
Authentic in every detail: The interior is crafted in the company upholstery shop to original specifications. To this end, the upholsterers only use materials of exactly the same color and quality as once used in series production. The soft-top in the original color produced to manufacturer's specifications completes the high-quality renovation.
